30-Second Verdict

Should you use Durable?

Best for

Solo trades and local service businesses that need a findable web presence today and have no intention of maintaining one afterwards.

Skip if

You sell products, want real control over layout , or plan to make organic search your main growth channel.

Real cost

Free keeps Durable branding and a .durable.site address. Your own domain starts at Launch, $25/mo , or $22 on annual billing.

Watch out

The default build can ship invented testimonials and a placeholder phone number with nothing flagging them as samples.

Overview

What is Durable?

Answer six short questions and Durable hands you a finished four-page business website: hero image, service blurbs, contact form, testimonials, the lot. It is hosted on Cloudflare, mobile-responsive, and carries a sitemap, structured data and an llms.txt file from the first second. The whole thing takes under a minute in a browser, and there is no app.

What arrives with it is the part people underestimate. Durable is sold as a business platform rather than a site builder, so the same login also holds a CRM, bookings synced to your calendar, Stripe invoicing, an image generator, a blog writer, and an SEO and GEO dashboard that tracks where ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity rank you. It is aimed squarely at plumbers, cleaners, coaches and photographers, not at designers or anyone selling a catalog of products.

Capabilities

Key features & how they perform

Each feature rated from hands-on testing and aggregated review sentiment.

⚡
★★★★★ 4.6

One-minute site generation

Six form answers produce a live four-page site with copy, images and a contact form. Nothing else in this category gets you online faster.

📇
★★★★☆ 4.2

CRM, bookings and invoicing

Leads, calendar-synced bookings and Stripe invoices sit in the same dashboard as the site, which genuinely removes two or three separate subscriptions.

🤖
★★★★☆ 3.9

Background AI agents

A blog writer publishes on a schedule and a lead agent auto-replies to form submissions. Useful, though both are capped by monthly quotas per plan.

🖼️
★★★★☆ 3.6

Brand and image studio

Generates logos, color palettes, ad copy and social posts. Output is competent but recognizably templated, and free accounts get five images a month.

🔍
★★★☆☆ 3.4

SEO & GEO dashboard

Tracks a 1 to 100 visibility score, directory listings and AI search placement. The framing is ahead of rivals; the keyword data behind it is thin.

🎨
★★★☆☆ 2.9

Themes and page editor

Click-to-edit text works cleanly, but themes swap color and type only, and there is no grid to move anything with. This is the weakest part of the product.

Feature ratings blended from Trustpilot, TechRadar, Cybernews & HostAdvice review patterns + hands-on testing.

Hands-On Walkthrough

What Durable built for a plumber who told it almost nothing

One free build for a fictional Denver plumbing company, from the first question to the upgrade screen.

Six questions before a single pixel

Durable does not ask what you want your site to look like. It asks what your business is, and infers everything else.

The whole intake is six screens with progress dots along the bottom. Trade, revenue, location, name, then a free-text box for anything else.

Nothing here touches color, typography or page structure, which is the first clue about how much design control you are getting later.

What I entered

"Plumbing services"

Step two is the one I did not expect. Before showing any output at all, Durable wants to know your current monthly revenue.

Location follows, with the site language locked to English by default. This feeds the local SEO and directory work later.

Then the business name, with two AI suggestion links underneath for anyone who has not settled on branding yet.

The last screen is the only place you can shape the output: a free-text box for photos and brand detail, with a progress bar nudging you to fill it.

During testing I left the description box completely empty on purpose. I wanted the default build, not a version I had quietly co-written. "Prefer not to say" on the revenue question was accepted without complaint.

The build arrives with a to-do list attached

Generation finished and the dashboard was already stacked with prompts.

Two free domains waiting to be claimed, keyword research already run, and four separate AI agents sitting there asking to be switched on.

Almost every card is an invitation to enable something else, which sets the tone for how the free tier behaves from here on.

What I noticed The site itself was finished and live before I had read a single card. Everything on this screen was an upsell or an activation, not a build step.

Themes change the paint, not the plan

Durable offers a theme picker, and this is where the ceiling becomes visible.

All six options carry the same headline, the same photograph and the same order of sections down the page. What changes is color and typography.

Nothing structural moves, which matters if you were expecting six genuinely different sites to choose between.

My take Six options sharing one layout and one hero image is a palette picker with extra steps. Two plumbers in the same city picking different themes still end up with the same website.

Editing is real but narrow

Click any text on the page and it becomes editable, with a standard formatting toolbar. That part works exactly as it should.

Durable also offers to rewrite copy for you, and this sounds better than it is. The only options are Make Longer, Make Shorter, More casual and More professional.

There is no free-text box, so I could not ask it to mention emergency callouts or same-day service. That single missing input explains why so much AI site copy stays generic.

The build produced four pages in total, and adding more is a single click from the same panel.

Observation The hero button published with a placeholder phone number, +1 (234) 567-8900, sitting in the primary call to action. It is the first thing a visitor would tap.

The customers who never existed

Northgate Plumbing has no customers. It has never fixed a leak or invoiced anyone. Durable gave it testimonials anyway.

Sandra Chen, listed as a homeowner in Aurora, praises the honest advice she received about a water heater. David Rodriguez, described as a cafe owner in Denver, credits the company with clearing a recurring drain problem on Colfax. Both quotes come with headshots.

Nothing on the page marks these as samples. No banner, no placeholder styling, no warning on the publish screen. The FTC rule that took effect in October 2024 explicitly covers testimonials from people who do not exist, with civil penalties running to roughly $51,744 per violation, and the business owner who trusted the default build is the one holding that risk.

The result The cards are also badly proportioned. Each quote runs two lines inside a card tall enough for eight, leaving a canyon of dead space above the reviewer's name.

SEO and GEO look promising, then stop

The SEO and GEO dashboard is one of Durable's newer additions, and it is reachable on the free plan.

It opens on a visibility score of 0 out of 100 marked "Not visible," alongside panels for business listings and keyword opportunities. Durable scores this 1 to 100 across Google and AI search placement.

Eight keyword opportunities had been found for my plumbing site.

Opening those keywords is where the free plan stops. Three are visible, five are blurred out behind an Upgrade button, and the count of eight stays on display at the top of the screen.

How it went The three I could see were near-duplicates: "shower leaking repair," then "leaking shower head repair," then a spigot variation. No search volume, no difficulty score, just a High or Low bar and a one-line description that tells a plumber nothing new.

What the upgrade actually costs

Clicking Upgrade produces a modal advertising $15 a month. The smaller line underneath says $180 billed yearly.

The standard $22 annual rate sits crossed out beside it, so $15 is a first-year promotional price that requires paying twelve months in advance.

Above all of it runs a countdown timer offering 40% off, with roughly three and a half hours left on the clock.

Worth knowing Run the arithmetic and a plumber who signs up here pays $180 today, then $264 a year from month thirteen onward, to see five more keywords about leaking showers.

Durable pricing

Figures taken from the official Durable pricing page. Monthly rates shown, with the annual rate in brackets.

Plan Price What's included
Free $0 .durable.site subdomain · Durable branding stays · 5 images/mo · 10 AI chat messages/mo · CRM up to 10 customers · 2 blog posts · help center support
Launch Popular $25 /mo ($22 annual) Custom domain (free up to $20 value) · branding removed · 50 images/mo · 1,000 AI chat messages/mo · unlimited CRM · calendar sync & paid bookings · 10 blog posts/mo · 20 AI lead replies/mo · priority live chat
Grow $49 /mo ($41 annual) Everything in Launch · unlimited team members · 500 images/mo · unlimited AI chat · 32 blog posts/mo · 100 lead replies/mo · daily AI ranking refresh · 1:1 onboarding call

The public pricing page in monthly mode. Switching to Yearly applies the 15% discount that produces the $22 and $41 figures.

⚠ Where the bill goes sideways The free plan will not remove Durable branding or connect your own domain, so upgrading is not optional if you want a site that looks like yours. In-app upgrade prompts run countdown timers and promotional first-year rates that quietly revert to standard on renewal, and the annual discount means paying twelve months up front. Durable's terms state that fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable. Subscriptions auto-renew for the same length as your initial term unless you give written notice at least 30 days before it ends.

Pros & cons

Specific conclusions from testing and real user reviews, not generic filler.

✅ Pros

  • Produces a live four-page site from six form answers
  • Sitemap, structured data and llms.txt ship on every plan including free
  • Syncs Google Business Profile out to Yelp, Bing Places and Apple Maps
  • Tracks where ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity place your business
  • CRM, calendar bookings and Stripe invoicing share one dashboard
  • Cloudflare hosting held steady under 50 concurrent users in stress tests
  • Named support agents draw repeat praise for DNS and domain fixes

⛔ Cons

  • Editor has no grid, so sections reorder but elements cannot move
  • Generation never asks about color, font or layout preference
  • Default builds populate testimonial sections with fabricated reviewers
  • No WordPress install and no meaningful HTML editing
  • No product catalog or cart, so selling means bolting on Stripe
  • Support runs business hours only, with no weekend or phone cover
  • Third-party speed tests recorded 6.7 to 8.9 second fully loaded times
  • Analytics omit bounce rate and demographics without a Google Analytics bolt-on
  • One invoice template, with almost no control over its design

Final Verdict

The fastest site you will ever publish, and the one you should read hardest before you do

Durable does the thing it promises. Six questions, under a minute, and a plumbing company that did not exist an hour earlier has a hosted site with structured data, a booking calendar, a CRM and a visibility dashboard tracking four AI search engines. For a sole trader who has been meaning to sort out a website for two years, that is worth real money. The problems start the moment you want the site to be yours: six themes that share one layout, an editor with no grid, and a rewrite tool with four buttons and no way to tell it what your business actually does. Then there is the default build itself, which publishes invented customer quotes and a placeholder phone number and flags neither. Buy it if you need to be online this afternoon, you sell a service rather than products, and you will sit down and read every line before hitting publish. Skip it if design matters, if search is your growth plan, or if you were hoping the AI would get it right without you checking.
