PolyBuzz AI
PolyBuzz is a free-to-start AI character chat platform with over 20 million user-made characters, a character builder with card import, AI image generation, and webtoons. Paid tiers and coins gate the stronger models, memory, and ad-free chatting.
The largest character catalog in AI roleplay, dragged down by 30-message memory on cheaper tiers, ad-choked free chats, and a content filter that keeps changing its mind.
Scrutool Score = equal-weight average of the 10 tested dimensions in the scorecard below. The six shown here are highlights.
Should you use PolyBuzz?
Roleplay browsers and character creators who want the biggest catalog anywhere (20 million+ bots) and their own shareable character live in minutes.
You want one long continuous story . Free and Basic chats keep roughly 30 messages of context, and Permanent Memory sits only on the priciest plan.
Free means forced video ads about every 5 chats plus daily caps. Basic is $9.9/mo on the official site, higher tiers cost more, and coins bill separately for extras.
The filter shifts without notice (Reddit tracks newly banned words), and age gating is weak despite 17+/18+ store ratings.
What is PolyBuzz?
PolyBuzz is a character chat and roleplay platform from Cloud Whale Interactive Technology, rebranded from Poly.AI in late 2024. Its main draw is a catalog of more than 20 million user-made characters covering anime, webtoon, celebrity, yandere, furry, BL and GL niches. You can build your own character or import cards from Character.AI, Pygmalion and TavernAI, and the platform adds an image generator, a webtoon library, and English voice playback on web, iOS and Android.
It markets itself as "free, private, and unrestricted," but the business model tells a fuller story: three membership tiers (Basic, Premium, Ultimate) gate the better models and memory depth, a coin system charges per use for extras, and private chats pass through a default Pure Mode filter that community reports show tightening over time.
Key features & how they perform
Each feature rated from hands-on testing and aggregated review sentiment.
20 million+ character catalog
The largest library in the category by an order of magnitude, filterable by tags from Yandere and Mafia to Werewolf, BL and GL. Quality swings hard, since nearly everything is user-made.
Character creation & card import
Avatar, gender, intro, greeting, background, permissions and dialogue style, plus card import from Character.AI, Pygmalion and TavernAI. Finished bots go live with a share link instantly.
Tiered memory models
The real product behind the tier ladder. Free and Basic prune context after roughly 30 messages, Long Memory stretches further on Premium, and only Ultimate keeps full chat history.
AI image generation
Text-to-image returns a batch of 4 results per prompt on the web, paid tiers add 20 to 30 extra daily avatar generations, and coin-priced Live Photos animate stills.
Webtoon library & shots
A free AI webtoon reader covering BL manhwa, GL manga and more, plus a panel-generation dashboard. Full "Webtoon shots" access is a membership perk; fans of the feature rate it highly.
Voice playback
Characters read replies aloud via text to speech, but only in English despite 28 supported text languages. Unlimited listening is a paid perk, and coins extend voice duration.
Feature ratings blended from Google Play, App Store, Trustpilot & Reddit review patterns + hands-on testing.
From signup to a live AI character: my PolyBuzz test run
Everything below comes from a hands-on session on the web version, in the order I tested it.
Land on the character feed
Signing in drops you onto a feed of trending characters, filterable by tags like Male, Female, Non-binary, Webtoon, Anime, Yandere, Mafia, BL and GL. The left panel holds the main tools: Discover, Generate Image and Create Character.
Create a character from scratch
Clicking Create Character presents two paths: build one from scratch or upload an existing character card. I chose to build from scratch.
The creation dashboard walks through an avatar image, name, gender, intro, greeting, background story, visibility permissions and a dialogue style setting.
Chat with the finished character
Opening a character starts the chat with the greeting already in place. The chat screen exposes a persona switcher, a history view, and a restart control for wiping the scene and starting over.
Generate images from a text prompt
The Generate Image dashboard takes a plain text prompt and produces a batch of results in one pass.
One of the four generated results:
Open the webtoon generation dashboard
Alongside the reader library, PolyBuzz includes a webtoon generation dashboard for producing panel-style visual stories. Full access to Webtoon shots is listed among the membership perks on the official plans page.
Check the parental control panel
Under the profile menu sits a parental control feature, the in-product home for age-related settings. It exists alongside the Teen Mode and Pure Mode options the platform documents for younger or filtered accounts.

Pros & cons
Pulled from real user reviews and my own testing, the specific conclusions, not generic filler.
✅ Pros
- 20 million+ characters is the biggest catalog in the category, tagged down to niches like Yandere, Omegaverse, Werewolf, BL and GL
- Character creation is complete and fast: avatar, gender, intro, greeting, background, permissions and dialogue style, with the finished bot live and shareable instantly
- Card import covers Character.AI, Pygmalion, TavernAI, Zoltanai and Text Generation, so migrating an existing roster takes minutes
- The image generator returned 4 usable portraits from a single prompt in my test, and web image generation includes free daily attempts
- The install base is real: 10 million+ Google Play downloads and 4.4 stars across more than 400,000 App Store ratings
⛔ Cons
- Memory is the number one complaint: free and Basic chats hold roughly 30 messages before silently pruning, which drives the "automatically deleted chats" threads
- Forced video ads interrupt free chats about every 5 messages, the single most repeated gripe in recent Trustpilot and store reviews
- The filter tightens without notice; Reddit users document newly banned words and roleplays that worked one month and get blocked the next
- Monetization stacks three subscription tiers with a coin system, so regenerations, Live Photos and premium model rounds keep charging after you subscribe
- Age gating is weak: web signup asks only for an email, and the apps rely on self-reported birthdates despite 17+/18+ store ratings

The biggest character catalog in AI roleplay, metered by ads, tiers and coins
PolyBuzz wins on raw scale. Nothing else in the category approaches a 20 million character catalog, creating a shareable character of your own takes minutes, and card import handles migrations from Character.AI and TavernAI painlessly. Then the meter starts running: free chats get interrupted by video ads roughly every five messages, cheaper tiers keep about 30 messages of context before silently pruning, dependable memory is reserved for the most expensive plan, and coins bill separately for regenerations, Live Photos and premium model rounds. The filter compounds it by tightening without notice, so the "unrestricted" pitch reads more like a mood than a policy, and weak age gates make this a poor fit anywhere minors are involved. Worth a look for browsers and creators running short, self-contained scenes who accept paying for the good models; skip it if you want one long continuous story, predictable adult content, or a free tier that respects your time.
